Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. I use no more than five grams of pressure (the weight of a nickel). This gentle touch is one of the things that sets CST apart from all other forms of manual therapy.

In a typical one hour session, the client lies quietly, fully clothed, while I make light contact at selected points around the head, torso, knees, and feet. I offer Craniosacral Therapy for little ones before, and after Tongue Tie Revision, in the third trimester as apart of my Prenatal Full Body Balancing, and postpartum during a session of my Foundation Program.

During pregnancy, Craniosacral Therapy can help you with related physical or emotional problems. It soothes back pain, nausea, headache, and edema, and supports you to deal with your concerns or anxiety around pregnancy and birth. The deep relaxation you can reach during the session not only helps you to cope easier with challenges in your pregnant everyday life but also provides you with a body sensation you will be able to reconnect with during labor and birth.

In the third trimester, this therapy can help you to prepare for the birth experience you wish for. It can align your pelvis, and in contact with you and your unborn baby, it supports your child to find an optimal position for birth. This can be remarkably advantageous if your baby is in a breech position.

After your baby has arrived much of your time and energy is focused on caring for your infant but it is just as important to honor your body as you adjust to new discomforts associated with birth, and infant care. Whether you are recovering from pelvic floor tears, cesarean surgery, hemorrhoids, muscular pain, mastitis, insomnia, or postpartum depression CST facilitates healing and helps to restore balance within the body.

Infant Craniosacral can minimize or eliminate tightness the can occur during the birth process whether the delivery was smooth, difficult or Cesarean birth.  The baby’s cranial bones move together or overlap to fit in the birthing person’s pelvis.  These overlaps and other accommodations the baby’s make should rebalance naturally very quickly after birth. When these overlaps or other accommodations don’t rebalance they can interfere with cranial nerve function.  Some issues with interference nerve function could be leading to colic, reflux, spitting up, swallowing, digestive or even sensory-motor impairments.

Infant Craniosacral Therapy can address the above along with all of these:

  • Tongue Tie Revision healing
  • Breastfeeding problems
  • Difficulty latching
  • Babies who favor turning their heads to one side
  • Babies who seem overly sensitive or startle easily
  • Babies who dislike or will not stay in tummy time
  • Babies that have a difficult time sleeping
  • Teething babies
  • Babies who seem uncomfortable in their own bodies

During a typical pediatric session, the child remains fully dressed and supported on a massage table unless they are already mobile.  With mobile little ones I will work with them on my lap, or on the ground so they can move around. Most of the session will be covering the following: assessment, full history or update on progress, exercises for Tongue Tie Revision, gentle oral soft tissue releases, but not limited to.  Based on the age of the child the hands-on treatments might only last 15-25 minutes.  The full hour allows time to follow the child’s needs.
